Banking and Finance

Handle your personal finances with confidence by learning essential banking terminology.

Banks and Transactions

A bank is a مصرف, and a financial transaction is a معاملة. When talking about a banker, use مصرفي for a male and مصرفية for a female.

To express that someone "was going to" do something in the past, combine the past tense of كان (to be) with a present tense verb that has the future prefix سـ attached.

Borrowing and Mortgages

When applying for loans, you might need to borrow (اقترض) money or secure a mortgage (رهن).

To express purpose or "in order to," attach the prefix لِـ directly to a present tense verb.

The Stock Market and Bonds

The stock market is known as the بورصة. The word تداول is highly versatile in finance; without vowel marks, it serves as both the past tense verb "to trade" and the noun "trading." Investors might trade stocks or a bond (سند).

Liquidity

Financial institutions must provide (وفر) enough cash flow for their operations. The term for financial liquidity is سيولة.
