	There is great debate as to whether <OpenstaxEm>Homo ergaster</OpenstaxEm> and <OpenstaxEm>Homo erectus</OpenstaxEm> are one species or two. Some refer to <OpenstaxEm>H. ergaster</OpenstaxEm> as the “early” <OpenstaxEm>H. erectus.</OpenstaxEm> Their differences are largely geographical: <OpenstaxEm>H. ergaster</OpenstaxEm> is associated with Africa and <OpenstaxEm>H. erectus</OpenstaxEm> with Asia. Yet some researchers have concluded that <OpenstaxEm>H. ergaster</OpenstaxEm> and even <OpenstaxEm>H. habilis</OpenstaxEm> should be referred to as <OpenstaxEm>H. erectus</OpenstaxEm>. Whether to lump or split the diverse species in the genus <OpenstaxEm>Homo</OpenstaxEm> is an ongoing challenge in the scientific community. While there are some anatomical differences between <OpenstaxEm>H. erectus</OpenstaxEm> and <OpenstaxEm>H. ergaster</OpenstaxEm>, they are fairly minimal.
