Pedir: Full Conjugation

The verb pedir means "to ask for" or "to request" (something). It is an e→i stem-changing verb, one of the cleanest examples of this pattern in Spanish. The e→i change appears in the present, the third-person preterite, the gerund, and throughout the subjunctive.

Be careful not to confuse pedir (to ask for something) with preguntar (to ask a question). Pedir is what you do in a restaurant when you order food; preguntar is what you do when you want information.

Present Indicative

The e→i change happens in all forms except nosotros.

Remember: pedir = to ask for something (a request); preguntar = to ask a question. In a restaurant, you pides food (you order it); you don't preguntas food.

Pedir follows the same e→i pattern as servir and seguir.
