The following report is wholly original, so no real city, operator, or passenger count is being claimed. It models compact contemporary Hindi news prose (journalistic/formal): a verbless headline, institutional sources, heavy noun phrases, agent-backgrounding passives, and a progression from announcement to qualification.
Read the report before unpacking it. Notice that its first sentence foregrounds the authority and action, later clauses foreground services and passengers, and the final sentence distances the reporter from a forecast by attributing it to officials.
The complete original report

Two new bus routes launched; twenty thousand passengers to benefit daily. City correspondent. Starting Monday, the city transport corporation introduced two new electric bus services. The first will connect the railway station with the university, while the second will run from the old city to the industrial area. According to the corporation, a bus will be available every ten minutes during peak periods, and passengers will not have to wait long. On the first day, 8,400 people traveled on the two routes. Some passengers complained that the timetable was unclear; in response, the corporation said that new information boards were being installed at all bus stops. Officials say that after one month the number of runs may be increased following a review of passenger numbers.
The headline: maximal news, minimal grammar
दो नए बस मार्ग शुरू, रोज़ाना बीस हज़ार यात्रियों को लाभ।
do nae bas mārg śurū, rozānā bīs hazār yātriyoṃ ko lābh.
Two new bus routes launched; twenty thousand passengers to benefit daily. (journalistic headline)
The headline omits at least two copulas or predicates: दो नए बस मार्ग [हुए] शुरू and …यात्रियों को लाभ [होगा]. This is standard headline compression (journalistic), not neutral conversational syntax. The comma coordinates two news angles: the event and its projected consequence.
The guide's journalistic news style page compares this compression with full neutral clauses.
यात्रियों को लाभ uses को for the beneficiary/experiencer. It does not mark यात्रियों as a direct object of an unspoken transitive verb. The latent structure is यात्रियों को लाभ होगा “passengers will receive/experience benefit.”
रोज़ाना बीस हज़ार यात्रियों को इन मार्गों से लाभ होगा।
rozānā bīs hazār yātriyoṃ ko in mārgoṃ se lābh hogā.
Twenty thousand passengers will benefit from these routes daily. (neutral-formal full sentence)
Lead sentence: institution, date, and completed launch
शहर परिवहन निगम ने सोमवार से दो नई विद्युत बस सेवाएँ शुरू कर दी हैं।
śahar parivahan nigam ne somvār se do naī vidyut bas sevāẽ śurū kar dī haiṃ.
Starting Monday, the city transport corporation introduced two new electric bus services. (journalistic/formal)
Perfective transitive शुरू कर दी हैं places ने on the agent निगम. The unmarked direct object दो नई…सेवाएँ controls feminine plural दी हैं. English speakers often make the nearest noun निगम control agreement; Hindi perfective alignment instead points to the unmarked object here.
कर देना packages the launch as achieved and now in force. It need not imply doing something “for” another person. Present auxiliary हैं makes the completed change relevant at publication time. सोमवार से can mean “from Monday onward,” not merely motion away from Monday.
The noun stack शहर परिवहन निगम and Sanskritic विद्युत are (formal/institutional). Conversation would more likely say शहर की बस कंपनी and इलेक्ट्रिक बसें.
Contrasting the routes without repeating nouns
पहली सेवा रेलवे स्टेशन को विश्वविद्यालय से जोड़ेगी, जबकि दूसरी पुराने शहर से औद्योगिक क्षेत्र तक चलेगी।
pahlī sevā relve sṭeśan ko viśvavidyālay se joṛegī, jabki dūsrī purāne śahar se audyogik kṣetra tak calegī.
The first service will connect the railway station with the university, while the second will run from the old city to the industrial area. (journalistic/formal)
पहली सेवा establishes the full noun; दूसरी omits recoverable सेवा. Its feminine form keeps the missing head visible. जबकि marks a parallel contrast (formal/neutral written), not a contradiction: the routes simply serve different corridors.
In स्टेशन को विश्वविद्यालय से जोड़ेगी, को marks one endpoint as the object and से introduces the connecting counterpart. In शहर से…क्षेत्र तक, the same से instead marks origin and तक the endpoint. Postpositions derive their reading from the predicate and construction, not from one fixed English word.
Attribution and passenger obligation
निगम के अनुसार, व्यस्त समय में हर दस मिनट में बस उपलब्ध होगी।
nigam ke anusār, vyast samay meṃ har das minaṭ meṃ bas uplabdh hogī.
According to the corporation, a bus will be available every ten minutes during peak periods. (journalistic/formal)
निगम के अनुसार attributes the claim. The reporter presents the corporation as its source rather than independently guaranteeing the frequency. This evidential distance is central to responsible news prose.
व्यस्त समय में is the formal Hindi equivalent of “during peak time.” हर दस मिनट में gives recurring interval frequency. Feminine उपलब्ध होगी agrees with बस; invariable adjective उपलब्ध hides gender, but the future auxiliary reveals it.
यात्रियों को लंबा इंतज़ार नहीं करना पड़ेगा।
yātriyoṃ ko lambā intazār nahīṃ karnā paṛegā.
Passengers will not have to wait long. (neutral-formal)
This necessity construction is literally closer to “to passengers, doing a long wait will not fall/be required.” The experiencer is यात्रियों को; the infinitive phrase is the required action; masculine पड़ेगा aligns with infinitival करना. It is not a future passive and does not need an English-style nominative passenger subject.
A measured fact, then a complaint
पहले दिन 8,400 लोगों ने दोनों मार्गों पर यात्रा की।
pahle din 8,400 logoṃ ne donoṃ mārgoṃ par yātrā kī.
On the first day, 8,400 people traveled on the two routes. (journalistic neutral)
The time frame comes first, followed by ergative agent लोगों ने. यात्रा की is a noun–verb complex predicate: feminine की agrees with यात्रा. The statistic functions as evidence after the corporation's prospective claim.
कुछ यात्रियों ने समय-सारणी स्पष्ट न होने की शिकायत की।
kuch yātriyoṃ ne samay-sāraṇī spaṣṭ na hone kī śikāyat kī.
Some passengers complained that the timetable was unclear. (journalistic/formal)
The content of the complaint is a nominalized clause: समय-सारणी स्पष्ट न होने की “of the timetable's not being clear.” Formal न negates oblique infinitive होने. Genitive की links that entire proposition to feminine शिकायत. English uses a finite that-clause; Hindi news prose often condenses propositions into genitive nominalizations.
जिस पर निगम ने कहा कि सभी बस स्टॉप पर नए सूचना-पट्ट लगाए जा रहे हैं।
jis par nigam ne kahā ki sabhī bas sṭop par nae sūcnā-paṭṭ lagāe jā rahe haiṃ.
In response, the corporation said that new information boards were being installed at all bus stops. (journalistic/formal)
जिस पर literally links “on which,” but here refers to the preceding complaint-event: “in response to which.” It cannot be replaced blindly by human-object जिसको. The quoted content begins with कि.
Passive progressive लगाए जा रहे हैं backgrounds the installers, who are predictable or unimportant. Masculine plural लगाए…रहे हैं agrees with सूचना-पट्ट. The passive makes the remedial work, not the workers, the newsworthy topic.
Forecast with layered distance
अधिकारियों का कहना है कि एक महीने बाद यात्री-संख्या की समीक्षा करके फेरों की संख्या बढ़ाई जा सकती है।
adhikāriyoṃ kā kahnā hai ki ek mahīne bād yātrī-saṅkhyā kī samīkṣā karke pheroṃ kī saṅkhyā baṛhāī jā saktī hai.
Officials say that after one month the number of runs may be increased following a review of passenger numbers. (journalistic/formal)
Three choices distance the report from a promise:
- अधिकारियों का कहना है attributes the proposition.
- समीक्षा करके makes review a prerequisite, not a completed action.
- बढ़ाई जा सकती है is a potential passive: “can/may be increased,” with no named decision-maker.
Feminine singular बढ़ाई…सकती है agrees with संख्या, even though फेरों is masculine plural inside its genitive modifier. This long-distance-looking noun phrase is a frequent agreement trap.
Common Mistakes
Copying headline ellipsis into a full sentence
❌ कल यात्रियों को लाभ।
Only acceptable as deliberate headline or note style; incomplete as the intended neutral sentence.
✅ कल से यात्रियों को लाभ होगा।
kal se yātriyoṃ ko lābh hogā.
Passengers will benefit starting tomorrow. (neutral full sentence)
Making the ergative agent control object agreement
❌ निगम ने दो नई सेवाएँ शुरू कर दिया है।
Incorrect — unmarked feminine plural सेवाएँ controls दी हैं.
✅ निगम ने दो नई सेवाएँ शुरू कर दी हैं।
nigam ne do naī sevāẽ śurū kar dī haiṃ.
The corporation has introduced two new services. (formal)
Translating “passengers have to” with a nominative subject
❌ यात्री इंतज़ार करना पड़ेंगे।
Incorrect — necessity uses यात्री/यात्रियों को, and पड़ेगा agrees with करना.
✅ यात्रियों को इंतज़ार करना पड़ेगा।
yātriyoṃ ko intazār karnā paṛegā.
Passengers will have to wait. (neutral)
Treating an attributed plan as confirmed fact
❌ फेरों की संख्या ज़रूर बढ़ेगी।
Too certain for this report — officials described a possibility after review.
✅ अधिकारियों के अनुसार फेरों की संख्या बढ़ाई जा सकती है।
adhikāriyoṃ ke anusār pheroṃ kī saṅkhyā baṛhāī jā saktī hai.
According to officials, the number of runs may be increased. (journalistic/formal)
Key Takeaways
- Restore omitted predicates before parsing a headline's noun phrases.
- Attribution frames identify whose claim is being reported.
- Nominalization and passive voice keep attention on issues and remedies rather than agents.
- Potential जा सकती है presents a possibility, not a confirmed promise.
From news order to neutral explanatory prose
parivahan nigam ne do ilekṭrik bas sevāẽ śurū kī haiṃ. ek bas relve sṭeśan aur viśvavidyālay ke bīc calegī aur dūsrī purāne śahar se audyogik kṣetra tak jāegī. nigam kā anumān hai ki inse roz lagbhag bīs hazār logoṃ ko lābh hogā. yātriyoṃ kī śikāyat ke bād nigam bas sṭop par sūcnā-paṭṭ lagvā rahā hai. ek mahīne ke ā̃kaṛe dekhne ke bād adhikārī tay kareṅge ki basoṃ ke phere baṛhāne haiṃ yā nahīṃ.
The transport corporation has launched two electric bus services. One will run between the railway station and the university, and the other will go from the old city to the industrial area. The corporation estimates that they will benefit about twenty thousand people daily. After passengers complained, the corporation is having information boards installed at bus stops. After reviewing one month's data, officials will decide whether to increase the number of bus runs. (neutral explanatory prose)
The paraphrase names actors and causal links more directly. The report instead begins with outcome, alternates claims with evidence and complaint, and ends in potential passive. That ordering produces the characteristic news stance: informative, compact, and careful about who is responsible for each assertion.
