Questions & Answers about Tabii, sana yardım ederim.
Why is it sana and not seni?
In Turkish, the verb yardım etmek (to help) always requires the dative case, which shows direction (meaning 'to'). So instead of saying 'I help you' like in English, Turkish speakers say 'I give help to you'. That is why we use sana (to you) instead of the direct object seni.
Why does ederim have a 'd' instead of a 't'?
The root of the helper verb is etmek (to do). When we add a suffix that starts with a vowel, like the aorist tense suffix -er, the hard t softens to a d. This is called consonant mutation, and it makes the word easier to pronounce. So, et-er-im becomes ederim.
Why use ederim (aorist tense) instead of edeceğim (future) or ediyorum (present continuous)?
The aorist tense (using the -er or -ar ending) is very often used for promises, polite offers, or expressing a willingness to do something right now. Saying yardım ederim sounds like 'I would be happy to help you' or 'Sure, I will help you,' which is the most natural way to accept a request in Turkish.
Why is Tabii spelled with two 'i' letters at the end?
