Why is fotoğraf singular here when the English translation says 'photographs'?
In Turkish, when a noun is a general, non-specific object of a verb, it usually stays in the singular form without any suffixes. Because we are talking about the general activity of taking photos rather than pointing out specific pictures, we just use fotoğraf instead of the plural fotoğraflar.
I thought the verb çekmek meant 'to pull'. Why is it used here?
Why does the past tense suffix start with a 't' in çektik?
The root of the verb is çek. Because it ends in a hard, voiceless consonant (k), the regular past tense suffix -di changes to -ti to match it. This is a common pronunciation rule in Turkish called consonant mutation. After the -ti, we just add the -k ending for 'we', giving us çektik.
