Questions & Answers about ยินดีที่ได้รู้จัก เช่นกัน ค่ะ
Why are there no words for "I" or "you" in this sentence?
In Thai, pronouns are often left out when the context makes it obvious. Just like we can say "Nice to meet you" in English instead of "I am glad to meet you", Thai simply says ยินดีที่ได้รู้จัก which translates roughly to "glad that got to know".
I learned that ที่ means "at". Why is it used here?
ที่ is a very common word with multiple jobs. While it does mean "at" for locations, here it acts as a joining word meaning "that". It connects the feeling ยินดี (glad) with the action รู้จัก (to know), meaning "glad that I get to know you".
What does ได้ do in front of รู้จัก?
Placing ได้ before an action means you "got to" or "had the opportunity to" do something. So ได้รู้จัก means you had the good opportunity to meet and know this person.
How does เช่นกัน work in this sentence?
เช่นกัน means "likewise", "me too", or "same here". You put it at the end of the phrase (but before the polite particle) to return a greeting or a feeling to the other person.
If a man is speaking, does he say the exact same thing?
