Questions & Answers about อย่า กังวล ครับ
Why do we use อย่า here instead of the normal word for "not" (ไม่)?
ไม่ is used for regular negative statements, like saying "I do not worry." However, because this sentence is a command telling someone what to do, we must use the negative command word อย่า, which specifically means "do not!"
Does adding ครับ at the end make this command less bossy?
Exactly! Giving commands can sometimes sound harsh. Adding the polite particle ครับ (for male speakers) or ค่ะ (for female speakers) softens the sentence, turning it from a direct order into a polite request or gentle reassurance.
Where is the word for "you" in this sentence?
Just like in English commands, the subject "you" is implied and usually dropped in Thai. You simply start the sentence directly with the command word อย่า followed by the action.
In English we often say "don't BE worried", so why is there no word for "to be" here?
In Thai, emotion and feeling words like กังวล act directly as verbs. You never need to add a "to be" word before them, so you can just put กังวล directly after อย่า.
