Why use อย่า instead of ไม่ to say "not" here?
The word ไม่ (mâi) is used for regular negative statements, like saying you are not doing something. Because this sentence is a command telling someone not to do something, we must use the negative imperative word อย่า (yàa) right before the verb จับ (jàp - to touch).
How does ของ make the word "my"?
To show ownership, Thai uses the pattern: Item + ของ (khŏng - of) + Owner. Therefore, คอมพิวเตอร์ ของ ฉัน literally translates to "computer of me", which means "my computer".
Does จับ only mean "touch"?
In this context, yes. However, จับ (jàp) can also mean "to catch", "to grab", or "to hold". If someone is reaching for your belongings, telling them not to จับ it covers touching, grabbing, or holding it!
Why does the sentence end with ค่ะ if it is a command?
Commands starting with อย่า can sound very direct, bossy, or harsh. Adding the female polite particle ค่ะ (khâ) at the end softens the sentence, turning it from a strict order into a firm but polite request.
