Verb Negation (ไม่)
Negating an action in Thai is simple. Just place the negative marker ไม่ directly in front of the verb.
| I do not know. | ผม ไม่ รู้ ครับ |
| He does not understand. | เขา ไม่ เข้าใจ |
Negating Sentences with Objects
When your sentence includes an object or destination, the word order is Subject + ไม่ + Verb + Object. The negative marker always stays immediately before the verb.
| I do not speak Thai. | ฉัน ไม่ พูด ภาษา ไทย ค่ะ |
| They do not go to school. | พวก เขา ไม่ ไป โรงเรียน |
Working with Modifiers
Even when sentences include adjectives, the core rule of negation never changes. The adjective stays directly after the noun it describes, and ไม่ stays directly in front of the verb.
| I do not like black cats. | ผม ไม่ ชอบ แมว ดำ ครับ |
| The big dog does not sleep. | หมา ใหญ่ ไม่ นอน ค่ะ |
