Expressing "From... To..."
To express a range from a starting point to an endpoint in Thai, use the pattern ตั้งแต่... This structure is highly versatile and works for both time and physical distances.
When discussing schedules or days of the week, place the starting time or day after ตั้งแต่ and the ending time or day after ถึง.
| The bank is open from Monday to Friday. |
| I work from Tuesday to Saturday. |
You can also use this pattern with question words like กี่โมง (what time) to ask about someone's schedule.
| What time to what time do you study on Wednesday? |
Locations and Distances
The exact same pattern is used for spatial ranges. Place the starting location after ตั้งแต่ and the destination after ถึง.
| Is it far from here to the station? |
| He drives from Bangkok to the sea. |
To state how far away something is, place the distance and unit of measurement, such as กิโลเมตร (kilometers), at the end of the sentence.
| From the university to the hospital is five kilometers. |
Specific Days vs. Ranges
If you want to talk about specific individual days rather than a continuous range, drop the "from... to..." pattern and link the days with และ (and).
| On Tuesday and Wednesday, the doctor is not at the hospital. |
