The Magic of ก็
In Thai, question words like อะไร (what) and ที่ไหน (where) are not just for asking questions. When you pair a question word with the particle ก็ immediately before a verb, it transforms into an inclusive statement meaning "any-" or "every-" (such as "anything," "everyone," or "wherever").
Easygoing Options
One of the most common ways to use this structure is with the word ได้ (can / to be able to) to express easygoing preferences. When you form the pattern Question Word + ก็ + ได้, you are saying that any option is perfectly fine.
| Normally, I can eat anything. | ปกติ ผม กิน อะไร ก็ ได้ ครับ |
| In this cafe, you can sit anywhere. | ใน คาเฟ่ นี้ นั่ง ที่ไหน ก็ ได้ ครับ |
| Freelance work can be done anytime. | งาน อิสระ จะ ทำ เมื่อไร ก็ ได้ ค่ะ |
Everyone and Anyone
To talk about "everyone" or "anyone," you use the word for "who": ใคร. Very often, this is doubled into ใครๆ to emphasize that you are talking about people in general, followed by ก็. You can also use a single ใคร with ก็ to achieve the exact same meaning.
| Everyone likes this diverse menu. | ใครๆ ก็ ชอบ เมนู หลากหลาย นี้ ค่ะ |
| Anyone can do it. | ใครๆ ก็ ทำ ได้ ครับ |
| Everyone agrees that he is suitable. | ใคร ก็ เห็นด้วย ว่า เขา เหมาะสม ครับ |
No Matter What
This pattern is incredibly versatile beyond simply saying something "can" be done. You can pair a question word and ก็ with almost any verb or adjective to create absolute statements meaning "no matter how," "wherever," or "whatever." Just drop the question word into the sentence, and ensure ก็ sits right before the resulting action or description.
| No matter how he cooks, it's delicious. | เขา ทำ อาหาร ยังไง ก็ อร่อย ค่ะ |
| This shirt goes well with anything. | เสื้อ ตัว นี้ ใส่ กับ อะไร ก็ เข้ากัน ค่ะ |
| There are various cafes everywhere. | ที่ไหน ก็ มี คาเฟ่ หลากหลาย ค่ะ |
