Asking "How"
To ask how an action is done, use the question word ยังไง. Like most Thai question words, it sits at the end of the sentence.
| How do you go to Bangkok? | คุณ ไป กรุงเทพฯ ยังไง ครับ |
| How does he book a train ticket? | เขา จอง ตั๋ว รถไฟ ยังไง คะ |
| How do you make Thai food? | คุณ ทำ อาหาร ไทย ยังไง คะ |
Asking "Why" and Answering with "Because"
To ask for a reason, use ทำไม. Unlike ยังไง, ทำไม is usually placed at the beginning of the sentence. To answer, begin your response with เพราะ (because).
| Why is the train slow? | ทำไม รถไฟ ช้า ครับ |
| Because there are many people. | เพราะ คน เยอะ ครับ |
| Why does he return home early? | ทำไม เขา กลับ บ้าน เร็ว ครับ |
| Because he is very sick. | เพราะ เขา ป่วย มาก ครับ |
| Why do you want to take a taxi? | ทำไม คุณ อยาก นั่ง แท็กซี่ คะ |
| Because taxis are fast. | เพราะ แท็กซี่ เร็ว ค่ะ |
