Questions & Answers about Med tanke på hans ålder är resultatet bra.
How does the phrase med tanke på literally translate?
It literally translates to "with thought on," where tanke means "thought." This fixed expression is the standard way to say "considering," "keeping in mind," or "given" in Swedish.
Why does the verb är come before the subject resultatet?
This happens because of the Swedish V2 (verb-second) rule. The entire introductory phrase Med tanke på hans ålder takes up the first position in the sentence. To keep the verb in the second position, är must swap places with the subject resultatet.
Could I use sin instead of hans here, since it refers to his own age?
No, you must use hans. The reflexive pronoun sin is only used when referring back to the subject of the same clause. Here, the subject is resultatet (the result). Since "he" is not the subject, you cannot use sin.
Resultatet is an ett-word, so why isn't the adjective written as bratt?
The adjective bra (good) is a special exception in Swedish. It is indeclinable, which means it never changes form. It stays exactly the same whether it is describing an en-word, an ett-word, or a plural noun.
