Questions & Answers about Den här koordinaten leder oss ingenvart.
Why is ingenvart used here instead of ingenstans?
Ingenvart indicates direction (to nowhere), whereas ingenstans indicates a fixed location (in or at nowhere). Because the verb leder implies movement toward a destination, the directional form is the best fit.
If I want to say the coordinate leads us somewhere instead of nowhere, how does the adverb change?
You would replace the negative prefix with the indefinite one, making it någonvart. Just like ingenvart, någonvart specifically indicates a direction of travel rather than a fixed location.
Is it common to hear Swedes use ingenstans in this context anyway?
Yes. Although ingenvart is the exact grammatical choice for direction, many native speakers simplify things in casual, everyday speech and use ingenstans for both location and direction. However, mastering the distinction is excellent for your B2 progression.
Why is the noun koordinaten in the definite form when the English translation just says this coordinate?
In Swedish, the demonstrative phrase den här (meaning this) must be followed by a noun in its definite form. The sentence literally phrases it as this the coordinate.
