Questions & Answers about Så vackert månen lyser upp natthimlen!
Why is the word order månen lyser instead of lyser månen? Doesn't the V2 rule apply after Så vackert?
The V2 (verb-second) rule doesn't apply here because this is an exclamatory clause. When you start an exclamation with Så + adjective/adverb to mean "How [adverb]...!", Swedish uses straight word order (Subject + Verb). Therefore, it remains månen lyser. If this were a standard statement meaning "Therefore the moon shines," you would use V2: Så lyser månen.
Why is vackert written with a -t ending when månen is an en-word?
In this sentence, vackert is acting as an adverb, not an adjective. It doesn't describe the moon itself; it describes how the moon lights up the sky. In Swedish, you create this type of adverb by adding a -t to the adjective, regardless of the subject's gender.
Since lyser upp is a particle verb, could I move upp to the end of the sentence: ...lyser natthimlen upp?
No, that wouldn't sound natural. In Swedish, particle verbs (like lyser upp) generally keep the verb and the particle right next to each other when the object is a full noun. Since natthimlen is a noun, it must come after the particle. You usually only split them if the object is a pronoun (e.g., lyser upp den or lyser den upp).
