Questions & Answers about Vilken töntig attityd!
Why do we use vilken here instead of vad en for "what a"?
When expressing "What a [noun]!" in an exclamation, Swedish uses vilken (for en-words), vilket (for ett-words), or vilka (for plurals). You never translate "what a" word-for-word as vad en.
Does attityd stay indefinite in this kind of exclamation?
Yes. Just like in English, the noun following the exclamatory vilken stays in its indefinite form (attityd rather than attityden).
What kind of word is töntig?
It is an everyday colloquial adjective meaning "dorky", "lame", or "uncool". It derives from the noun en tönt (a dork). Because it describes the en-word attityd, it keeps its base form töntig instead of adding a -t or -a.
How could we turn this phrase into a left-dislocated sentence, like the ones in this lesson?
To say "That dorky attitude, I don't like it," you would make the phrase definite, move it to the front as the topic, and use den as the resumptive pronoun: Den där töntiga attityden, den gillar jag inte.
