Why does the verb end in just -r instead of -ar or -er?
Mår belongs to a special group of short verbs (Group 3). Because the base verb (må) already ends in a vowel, we just add an -r to make it present tense, instead of adding an entire syllable like -ar or -er.
Can I use mår anytime I want to say "feel"?
Not quite! Mår is used specifically to talk about your health or general well-being (how you are doing mentally or physically). If you want to say you feel a physical object or a specific emotion, Swedish uses a completely different verb (känner).
Could I say Jag är bra to mean "I am fine"?
No, in Swedish, you don't use the verb är (am/is/are) to say how you are doing. If you say Jag är bra, it actually means "I am a good person" or "I am good at something." For your health or mood, always use mår.
I learned that bra means "good". Why does it translate to "fine" or "well" here?
