Questions & Answers about Spelet är roligt!
Why does roligt end with a "-t"?
In Swedish, adjectives have to match the gender of the noun they describe. Because spelet (the game) is an ett-word, you must add a -t to the base adjective rolig.
How can I tell from this sentence that spel is an ett-word?
You can tell by looking at the ending of spelet. The -et at the end is the definite suffix (meaning "the") used for ett-words. The indefinite form is ett spel (a game).
Does roligt mean "fun" or "funny"?
It actually means both! In Swedish, rolig (or roligt) can mean "fun" or "funny" depending on the context. For this sentence, "The game is fun" is the most natural translation.
If I used the en-word en match (a match or game) instead, how would the sentence change?
Because match is an en-word, the adjective would stay in its base form without the -t. The sentence would be: Matchen är rolig!
