Expressing "Either ... Or"
To present a choice between two options, use antingen ... eller ("either ... or"). You can use it to link nouns, adjectives, or full phrases.
| We can buy either the house or the apartment. | Vi kan köpa antingen huset eller lägenheten. |
| The apartment is either central or quiet. | Lägenheten är antingen central eller tyst. |
| The viewing is either today or tomorrow. | Visningen är antingen idag eller imorgon. |
Expressing "Neither ... Nor"
To state that two options are false or negative, use varken ... eller ("neither ... nor"). Because this structure is inherently negative, you do not need to add an extra negation word like inte (not).
| That house is neither central nor quiet. | Det där huset är varken centralt eller tyst. |
| The real estate agent is neither fast nor good. | Mäklaren är varken snabb eller bra. |
| The real estate agent showed neither the bathroom nor the bedroom. | Mäklaren visade varken badrummet eller sovrummet. |
| The apartment has neither an elevator nor a balcony. | Lägenheten har varken hiss eller balkong. |
