Concessions (Visserligen ... men)
To acknowledge a counterpoint before making your main argument, use the pair visserligen ... men (admittedly ... but).
| The circus is admittedly fun, but it is highly dangerous. | Cirkusen är visserligen rolig, men den är livsfarlig. |
| The acrobat is admittedly skilled, but he can fall. | Akrobaten är visserligen skicklig, men han kan ramla. |
Word Order
Visserligen is a sentence adverb. In a standard main clause, it typically comes immediately after the verb (and the subject). The second clause is then introduced by the conjunction men (but) to present your counter-argument.
| The acrobat admittedly balances in the air, but she uses the safety net. | Akrobaten balanserar visserligen i luften, men hon använder skyddsnätet. |
This structure works exactly the same with a dummy subject like det (it):
| It is admittedly difficult to balance, but I love the trapeze. | Det är visserligen svårt att balansera, men jag älskar trapetsen. |
