"Let's" Commands
To suggest that you and others do something together ("Let's..."), use the nosotros (we) form of the present subjunctive.
| Let's support justice and equality. Let's make the change! | Apoyemos la justicia y la igualdad. ¡Hagamos el cambio! |
| Let's protest for justice, but let's be peaceful. | Protestemos por la justicia, pero seamos pacíficos. |
To say "let's not," simply place no in front of the verb. The verb form stays exactly the same.
| Let's not take the posters. Let's protest here. | No llevemos los carteles. Protestemos aquí. |
| Let's not go to the march. It is dangerous. | No vayamos a la marcha. Es peligrosa. |
Working with Pronouns
For affirmative commands, attach direct object pronouns (like lo, la, los, las) directly to the end of the verb.
Since adding a pronoun changes the word's natural stress, add a written accent mark to the original stressed vowel (usually the a or e of the verb ending) to maintain the correct pronunciation.
| Let's achieve equality. Let's do it today. | Logremos la igualdad. Hagámoslo hoy. |
| Let's paint the posters now. Yes, let's paint them! | Pintemos los carteles ahora. ¡Sí, pintémoslos! |
| The students are ready. Let's mobilize them for change! | Los estudiantes están listos. ¡Movilicémoslos por el cambio! |
For negative commands, pronouns are never attached. Place them immediately before the verb, right after no.
| Let's not do it. Maybe it isn't peaceful. | No lo hagamos. A lo mejor no es pacífico. |
