Questions & Answers about Смотритель маяка работает в полной изоляции.
Why does изоляции end in -ии rather than -ие here?
Even though it is in the prepositional case (triggered by в), feminine nouns ending in -ия in the nominative (like изоляция) take an -и ending instead of the standard -е. This is a common rule that is easy to forget when writing.
How is the noun смотритель formed?
It comes from the verb смотреть (to watch or look) combined with the suffix -тель. This suffix is heavily used in Russian to form nouns denoting a person's profession, role, or an agent doing an action, much like "-er" in English. Here, it gives us a watcher or keeper.
Does the stress on маяка fall on the stem or the ending?
The stress falls on the ending: маяка́. The noun мая́к (lighthouse) has fixed end-stress throughout all of its declensions (for example, маяку́, маяко́м).
Could I use a word like абсолютный or совершенный instead of полный here?
