Questions & Answers about Я хочу купить два ароматных тюльпана для этого букета.
Why is the adjective ароматных in the plural when the noun тюльпана is in the singular?
This is the special rule for adjectives with the numbers 2, 3, and 4. When describing masculine or neuter nouns, the adjective takes the Genitive plural form (ароматных), while the noun itself takes the Genitive singular form (тюльпана).
The phrase два ароматных тюльпана is the direct object of купить. Does the Accusative case change how this number rule works?
Not for inanimate nouns like tulips! For inanimate masculine nouns, the Accusative form of the number is identical to the Nominative (два). Because it acts like the Nominative, the adjective and noun follow the standard Nominative rule. If the noun were animate, like cats or brothers, the number, adjective, and noun would all take the Genitive plural.
Why do we use the perfective verb купить instead of the imperfective покупать here?
You use the perfective купить because the sentence refers to a single, specific, completed action (buying two specific tulips for a specific bouquet) rather than a repeated habit or a general ongoing desire to shop.
Why is the phrase at the end этого букета instead of этот букет?
