Questions & Answers about Они наняли меня в качестве аналитика.
Why does the word аналитик end in -а in this sentence?
It is in the Genitive case. The phrase в качестве (meaning "in the capacity of" or simply "as") always requires the noun that follows it to take the Genitive case.
Could I say Они наняли меня как аналитика instead?
Yes, you can! When you use как to express a role, the role matches the case of the person it refers to. Here, меня is in the Accusative case. Since аналитик is an animate masculine noun, its Accusative form is аналитика.
What is the infinitive of наняли, and is it perfective?
The infinitive is нанять (to hire), and it is perfective. It is used here because hiring someone is a completed action with a specific result. Its imperfective pair, used for repeated or ongoing hiring, is нанимать.
Does в качестве sound overly formal compared to как?
It is a bit more professional or official than как, which is why it fits perfectly in a business context like getting hired. However, it is still very common in everyday speech when talking about jobs or roles.
