Questions & Answers about Моя сестра младше, она лучше понимает эту функцию.
Why is 'younger' translated as младше instead of adding более (more) to the regular word for 'young'?
While you can say более молодая (more young), Russian strongly prefers the special irregular comparative form младше for age. The great thing about these irregular short comparatives is that they never change their endings—младше stays exactly the same whether you are talking about a brother, a sister, or multiple people!
Is лучше an adjective or an adverb here?
Why did the ending of эта функция change to эту функцию?
Because it is the direct object of the verb понимает (the thing being understood), so it needs the accusative case. For feminine words, the -а at the end of эта changes to -у, and the -я at the end of функция changes to -ю.
I thought функция meant 'function', but the translation says 'feature'. Are they the same in Russian?
