Questions & Answers about Я читаю список вопросов.
Why does the word for questions end in -ов here?
It is in the genitive plural case because the sentence translates to a list of questions. For masculine nouns ending in a hard consonant like вопрос, you form the genitive plural by adding -ов.
Since the list is the direct object being read, why does список keep its dictionary form?
Список is a masculine noun that is inanimate (a thing, not a person or animal). In Russian, inanimate masculine nouns do not change their endings in the accusative case when they are the direct object.
Why use список вопросов instead of just вопросы?
Using вопросы on its own makes the sentence Я читаю вопросы (I am reading the questions). The word список specifically means a list, which then forces the next word into the genitive case to show what the list is made of.
How is the final letter of вопросов pronounced?
Because the letter в is at the very end of the word, it gets devoiced. Instead of a v sound, it is pronounced like an English f.
