The Twelve Months

All twelve are MASCULINE, and — unlike English — Russian writes them with a small letter.

Saying in a Month

Use в + prepositional, the same construction you use for places. The ending is -е:

в январ*е — in January в мае* — in May

Eight of the twelve end in a soft sign — январь, февраль, июнь, июль, сентябрь, октябрь, ноябрь, декабрь — and that ь simply gives way to the -е.

A Stress Trap

Six months move their stress onto the ending in every case except the dictionary form:

янва́рь → в январе́    ноя́брь → в ноябре́

The same happens with февраль, сентябрь, октябрь and декабрь. Март, май and август keep their stress where it is.
