Stating Reasons (так как)
To explain the reason (причина) for something in a slightly more formal or logical tone than потому что (because), use the conjunction так как (since, as). Always place a comma right before it.
| This reason is important, since we want to understand the problem. | |
| This is an obvious result, since he did not come. |
Forming an Argument
When having a discussion (дискуссия), you will often need to present an argument (аргумент) and assess whether it is convincing (убедительный) or obvious (очевидный).
| Your argument is convincing, since you are right. |
| He became a lawyer, since he loves discussions. | |
Views and Conclusions
To wrap up your reasoning, you will typically state a conclusion (вывод) based on an outcome (итог).
| We made a conclusion, since the result is good. |
Of course, not every issue is clear-cut. When debating, you can acknowledge that a view (взгляд) is debatable or controversial (спорный). Phrases like на мой взгляд (in my view) or по-моему (in my opinion) help frame your perspective.
| In my view, this is a controversial argument, since we do not know the reason. | |
