Indefinite pronouns (-либо)

In official documents, scientific reports, or formal business communications, Russian uses a highly formal set of indefinite pronouns and adverbs.

The Formal Suffix "-либо"

To express "any," "anything," or "anywhere," attach the hyphenated suffix -либо to question words like какой, где, кто, or что. This serves the same function as the everyday suffix -нибудь, but in a highly formal, professional tone.

Only the first part of the word declines to match the noun it modifies or its grammatical role, while the -либо suffix remains unchanged. For example, with какой-либо (any / some kind of):

Notice how какой declines to the Genitive какого after the preposition без (without), while -либо stays exactly the same:

Adding the suffix to где (where) creates the adverb где-либо (anywhere). As an adverb, it never changes form.

It is unlikely that you will find a similar body of water anywhere.
Вряд ли вы где-либо найдёте похожий водоём.

"Кто-либо" and "Что-либо"

Applying this suffix to кто (who) and что (what) forms кто-либо (anyone) and что-либо (anything). Like какой-либо, the first half of the word declines exactly like the standalone pronouns кто or что. They are often used in formal conditional statements discussing potential outcomes or risks.
