Winter Sports on the Mountain

Gearing Up for the Slopes

A winter mountain getaway requires the right equipment. You will need skis (schiul) and ski boots (clăparul) before you can hit the snow and ski (a schia).

The skis are new, I bought them yesterday.
Schiurile sunt noi, le-am cumpărat ieri.
I looked for the ski boot, but I did not find it.
Am căutat clăparul, dar nu l-am găsit.
If we had time, we would ski.
Dacă am avea timp, am schia.

Lifts and Slopes

Before heading down the ski slope (pârtia), you need to get to the top via a chairlift (telescaunul) or a cable car (telecabina). Always remember to wear a helmet (casca).

The ski slope is open until tonight.
Pârtia este deschisă până diseară.
You must wear the helmet on the slope.
Trebuie să porți casca pe pârtie.
The chairlift runs very slowly today.
Telescaunul merge foarte încet astăzi.
We must take the cable car to the top.
Trebuie să luăm telecabina până sus.

Sledding and Skating

If skiing isn't for you, there is still plenty of winter fun to be had. You can take a sled (sania) to the snowy hills, or visit the ice rink (patinoarul) to skate (a patina).

You must pull the sled slowly.
Trebuie să tragi sania încet.
If the ice rink were open, I would go.
Dacă patinoarul ar fi deschis, aș merge.
