Theater Premiere

Step into the world of drama and applause. In this lesson, we will learn the vocabulary you need to enjoy a night out at the theater.

First Performances

An actor's first performance on stage is debutul (the debut). If the performance is perfect, it is impecabil (flawless). Notice how impecabil can describe both the action of playing and the debut itself.

The curtain falls slowly after the performance.
Cortina cade încet după spectacol.

The Audience and Preparation

At the end of a great performance, the audience will show their appreciation and aplauda (applaud).

The audience applauded with much enthusiasm.
Publicul a aplaudat cu mult entuziasm.

Long before the public sees the play, the cast goes through many practice runs, known as repetiția (the rehearsal).

Ultima repetiție a fost extrem de lungă.

If you want to watch the show in style, you might book loja (the box seat) instead of sitting in the stalls.
