I know that, I think that
To report what you know or think, put că (that) after the verb and continue with a normal sentence. Unlike English, Romanian never leaves că out.
| I know that you are tired. | Știu că ești obosit. |
| I think the movie is interesting. | Cred că filmul este interesant. |
| a ști (to know) | a crede (to think, believe) | |
|---|---|---|
| eu | știu | cred |
| tu | știi | crezi |
| el, ea | știe | crede |
| noi | știm | credem |
| voi | știți | credeți |
| ei, ele | știu | cred |
Know where, know what
After ști, a question word can start the clause instead of că:
| Do you know where the station is? | Știi unde este gara? |
| I don't know what is happening there. | Nu știu ce se întâmplă acolo. |
Hearing, seeming, meaning
| Do you hear the music? | Auzi muzica? |
| The movie seems interesting. | Filmul pare interesant. |
| What does "ziar" mean? | Ce înseamnă „ziar”? |
Chiar adds emphasis — really, truly — and despre means about:
| I really like the movie. | Chiar îmi place filmul. |
| We are talking about the movie. | Vorbim despre film. |
Sure, of course, possible
| sigur | sure, certain — sigur că = of course |
| desigur | of course |
| posibil | possible |
| Of course I know. | Sigur că știu. |
| Are you coming? Of course. | Vii? Desigur. |
| It is not possible! | Nu este posibil! |
