Days of the Week
In Romanian, the days of the week are not capitalized unless they appear at the beginning of a sentence.
When you want to say that you do something "on" a certain day, you do not need an extra preposition like you do in English. You simply state the name of the day.
Monday and Tuesday
The work week starts with luni (Monday) and is followed by marți (Tuesday).
| Today is Monday. | Astăzi este luni. |
| Tomorrow is Tuesday. | Mâine este marți. |
| I use it on Monday and Tuesday. | Îl folosesc luni și marți. |
Wednesday and Thursday
Next up are miercuri (Wednesday) and joi (Thursday). Notice how they can be placed either at the beginning or the end of the sentence to show when an action happens.
| On Wednesday I learn English. | Miercuri învăț engleza. |
| The girl must read on Thursday. | Fata trebuie să citească joi. |
| I buy a book on Thursday. | Cumpăr o carte joi. |
Friday and the Weekend
Finally, we reach vineri (Friday) and the weekend: sâmbătă (Saturday) and duminică (Sunday).
| On Friday I write a message. | Vineri scriu un mesaj. |
| On Friday and Saturday I do not work. | Vineri și sâmbătă nu lucrez. |
| On Sunday I am at home with the family. | Duminică sunt acasă cu familia. |
