Nationality adjectives
A nationality is an adjective, so it agrees like any other: four forms, man, woman, men, women. It is written with a small letter — only the country takes a capital (România, but român).
| man | woman | men | women | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Romanian | român | română | români | române |
| English | englez | engleză | englezi | engleze |
| French | francez | franceză | francezi | franceze |
| German | german | germană | germani | germane |
| Italian | italian | italiană | italieni | italiene |
| Spanish | spaniol | spaniolă | spanioli | spaniole |
| American | american | americană | americani | americane |
Watch italian: its plurals change the vowel (italieni, italiene).
| My colleague is English and speaks English. | Colegul meu este englez și vorbește engleza. |
| The German tourists are visiting the museum. | Turiștii germani vizitează muzeul. |
| My friends are Italian. | Prietenii mei sunt italieni. |
A Romanian woman: româncă
To say what a woman is, Romanian often uses a separate noun. A Romanian woman is a româncă — not română, which is the adjective (limba română, mâncarea română).
| My friend is Romanian. | Prietena mea este româncă. |
| My mother is Romanian, and my father is English. | Mama mea este româncă, iar tatăl meu este englez. |
Languages
A language is the feminine adjective with the article -a: româna, engleza, germana. After vorbi you can also use the adverb românește — in Romanian.

Foreign, foreigner
Străin means foreign: limbi străine, turiști străini. Naționalitatea is the word on every form.
