Everyday clothes
Blugii (jeans) and adidașii (sneakers) are almost always plural — like ochelarii. In winter you wear a căciulă, a warm cap, often of fur; a pălărie is a hat with a brim. For an interview or a wedding, a man wears a costum (suit).
| She is wearing jeans and a white blouse. | Ea poartă blugi și o bluză albă. |
| I bought new sneakers. | Am cumpărat adidași noi. |
| In winter I wear a thick hat. | Iarna port o căciulă groasă. |
| The father wears a suit at work. | Tatăl poartă costum la serviciu. |
Leather and thick
Pielea is the skin, and also leather: a leather bag is o geantă de piele. Gros is thick; its feminine changes the vowel: gros, groasă, groși, groase.
| I have a leather bag. | Am o geantă de piele. |
| The sweater is thick and warm. | Puloverul este gros și cald. |
Two colors that never change
Like roz and maro, mov (purple) and bej (beige) have only one form — a purple dress, purple flowers, beige trousers.
| one | several | |
|---|---|---|
| purple | o rochie mov | flori mov |
| beige | o haină bej | pantaloni bej |
| black (for contrast) | o rochie neagră | flori negre |
| She bought a purple dress. | Ea a cumpărat o rochie mov. |
| The beige trousers are new. | Pantalonii bej sunt noi. |
Pantalonii scurți (short trousers) are shorts. Anything that is la modă is in fashion.
| This skirt is in fashion. | Fusta asta este la modă. |
