Candeeiro refers to the lamp fixture itself, like a desk lamp or bedside lamp. If you want to say the actual lightbulb doesn't work, you would use the word lâmpada. So if you change the lâmpada and it still doesn't turn on, the candeeiro is broken!

Why is the verb funcionar used here instead of trabalhar for 'to work'?

In Portuguese, trabalhar is used when talking about people or animals doing labor or a job. When talking about machines, electronics, or systems operating correctly, you must use funcionar. Since a lamp is a device, it não funciona.

Why do we say do quarto instead of just de quarto?

In English, we often put two nouns together to describe something (like bedroom lamp), but in Portuguese, we use de (of) plus the second noun. We use do (a contraction of de + o) because we are referring to a specific bedroom.
