Describing "The Way"
When describing how an action is performed, English usually uses "the way" (e.g., "the way they dance"). Portuguese uses either o modo or a maneira.
While English connects this phrase to the action with "that" (or no word at all), Portuguese uses the relative adverb como (how). Think of it literally as saying "the way how".

| The choreographer did not like the way you executed that movement. | O coreógrafo não gostou do modo como tu executaste esse movimento. |
The phrases o modo como and a maneira como mean the exact same thing and are interchangeable. Notice that the verb following como is simply conjugated to match whoever is performing the action.
