### Two Spellings, One Rule

You just learned **porque** = *because*. The SAME word asks *why* — the spelling depends on where it stands.

**Porquê** — with the circumflex — is *why* standing ALONE or at the END of the sentence:

**Porque** — no accent — opens a full why-question, and in Portugal it almost always brings **é que** along:

### The Rule of Thumb

Nothing after it → **porquê**. Something after it → **porque**. And the answer to both is **porque** + a reason — question and answer often mirror each other word-for-word, as above.
