The Verbs
Morrer (to die) is regular in the present but has the irregular participle morto — which doubles as the everyday adjective. Matar (to kill) is fully regular. In the PPS you already know: morreu, matou.
| My fish died yesterday. | O meu peixe morreu ontem. |
The Adjectives
vivo and morto are the alive/dead pair, and they take estar: O peixe está morto. A useful extra: ao vivo means live (a concert, on TV).
The Nouns
A morte is death; o deus is a god (capitalised Deus for the Christian God, and then it drops the article: graças a Deus).
And the Opposite of Crying
Rir (to laugh) is irregular: eu rio, tu ris, ele ri, nós rimos, eles riem. You already know chorar — now you can do both.
| The little girl laughs a lot. | A menina ri muito. |
