Questions & Answers about Inżynier nie ogląda programu.
Why is the word programu used here instead of just program?
Normally, the verb oglądać (to watch) uses the Accusative case for the thing being watched. For the masculine noun program, the Accusative form is exactly the same as the basic dictionary form: program. However, whenever you put nie (not) in front of a verb, its direct object must change to the Genitive case. The Genitive form of program is programu.
How do I know whether to add -a or -u to make the Genitive form of program?
Program is a masculine inanimate noun (it is an object, not a person or animal). In the Genitive case, these nouns take either an -a or -u ending. It can be tricky, but many loanwords (words borrowed from other languages) and abstract concepts take the -u ending, which gives us programu.
What is the dictionary form of ogląda?
The dictionary form is oglądać (to watch). It belongs to a very common verb group where you simply drop the -ć at the end to get the on/ona/ono (he/she/it) form. That is why inżynier (the engineer) gets the verb form ogląda.
Polish doesn't have the word "the", so could this also mean "An engineer"?
