Questions & Answers about W ciągu tygodnia dostarczymy paczkę.
"Within a week" is translated as w ciągu tygodnia. Does the phrase w ciągu always require the genitive case?
Yes. The phrase w ciągu literally translates to "in the course of" or "in the flow of". Because of that implied "of", it always forces the following noun into the genitive case. That is why tydzień (week) changes to its genitive form, tygodnia.
Why does the spelling change so much from tydzień to tygodnia?
The word tydzień is historically made up of an old pronoun plus the word dzień (day). Just like dzień drops its e to become dnia in the genitive case, tydzień becomes tygodnia. The disappearing e is a common Polish spelling rule known as a fleeting vowel.
Why is this translated as "we will deliver" if there is no future helper verb like będziemy?
The verb dostarczyć (to deliver) is perfective, meaning it focuses on the completion of an action. In Polish, when you conjugate a perfective verb using standard present-tense endings, it automatically creates the future tense. You only use helper words like będziemy with imperfective verbs.
Could I change the word order and say Dostarczymy paczkę w ciągu tygodnia?
