Kiedy joining two sentences
You know kiedy as the question when?. It also joins two sentences as when — no question mark, and a comma between the two halves:
| When I have time, I read. | Kiedy mam czas, czytam. |
| When I am tired, I rest. | Kiedy jestem zmęczony, odpoczywam. |
The kiedy half can come second as well:
| I always call when I come back home. | Zawsze dzwonię, kiedy wracam do domu. |
In the past and the future
The same pattern works with any tense — both halves simply take the tense of the story:
| When I was small, I lived in Warsaw. | Kiedy byłam mała, mieszkałam w Warszawie. |
| When I am at home, I will be reading. | Kiedy będę w domu, będę czytać. |
