Numerals 5 and above in oblique cases

The Locative case of numerals 5 and above

When numerals 5 and above are used in the Locative case (such as after the prepositions w or o), they take the ending -u. For example, pięć becomes pięciu. The noun and any adjectives following it decline normally in the Locative plural.

She works in five charitable organizations.
Ona pracuje w pięciu organizacjach charytatywnych.

The Instrumental case of numerals 5 and above

In the Instrumental case, numerals from 5 upwards take the ending -oma.

You will frequently use the Instrumental case with the preposition z (with), or after certain verbs like zarządzać (to manage).

The Dative case of numerals 5 and above

The Dative case is used for indirect objects, such as the recipients of a charitable donation. Like the Locative, numerals 5 and above in the Dative case also take the -u ending (e.g., sześć becomes sześciu). The noun and adjectives that follow it take their standard Dative plural endings.

These endings remain consistent as the numbers get larger. In the Locative and Dative cases, tens like dwadzieścia (twenty) and pięćdziesiąt (fifty) change to dwudziestu and pięćdziesięciu.
