Left, right, up and down (po lewej stronie)

Left and right

Polish says on the left side and on the right side, never a bare left or right:

on the left

po lewej stronie — on the left. on the right

po prawej stronie — on the right.

Learn them whole. The endings inside them are Locative, which is exactly what the previous lesson introduced.

Up and down

up, upstairs

na górze and down, downstairs

na dole work the same way. In a building they mean upstairs and downstairs.

The adjective

lewy is the adjective left, and it agrees like any other: lewy pokój.
