Food staples (masło, ziemniak)

The staples

masło butter, szynka ham, jogurt yoghurt, kurczak chicken, ziemniak potato, marchewka carrot, sałata lettuce, pieprz pepper (the spice).

Note sałata is the plant — lettuce. The dish you already know is sałatka.

Salting and peppering

solić — to salt: Nie solę zupy. Sól and cukier you know; pieprz completes the table set.

Quantities take the Genitive

With the Genitive plural from the last lessons: kilogram ziemniaków — a kilo of potatoes, dużo marchewek — a lot of carrots.
