ile and tyle Decline
Ile (how many) and tyle (so many) work like wiele from lesson 429: with masculine-personal nouns and in the oblique cases they take the -u form:
| non-virile | virile / oblique | |
|---|---|---|
| how many | ile kobiet, ile okien | ilu braci, z ilu, o ilu |
| so many | tyle domów | tylu ludzi, z tylu |
| How many brothers do you have? | Ilu masz braci? |
Always with the Genitive
Whatever the case frame, the counted noun stays Genitive plural: tylu ludzi przyszło (singular verb, like pięciu), nie znam tylu słów.
| So many people came to the concert! | Tylu ludzi przyszło na koncert! |
In Questions About Frames
Prepositions pick the form too: O ilu książkach rozmawialiście? — about how many books did you talk?
| How many books did you talk about? | O ilu książkach rozmawialiście? |
