When using 〜ば after い-adjectives, replace the ending い with ければ.
| If the train is early, I won’t be late. | 電車 が 早ければ、 遅れません。densha ga hayakereba, okuremasen. |
| If it’s cold, I’ll wear a coat. | 寒ければ、 コート を 着ます。samukereba, kooto o kimasu. |
| If the station is far, I'll use a taxi. | 駅 が 遠ければ、 タクシー を 使います。eki ga tookereba, takushii o tsukaimasu. |
For negative い-adjectives, replace ない with なければ.
| If the train is not early, I will be late. | 電車 が 早く なければ、 遅れます。densha ga hayaku nakereba, okuremasu. |
| If it's not new, I won't buy it. | 新しく なければ、 買いません。atarashiku nakereba, kaimasen. |
| If it's not cold, I'll play outside. | 寒く なければ、 外 で 遊びます。samuku nakereba, soto de asobimasu. |
| If the school isn’t far, I’ll go by bicycle. | 学校 が 遠く なければ、 自転車 で 行きます。gakkou ga tooku nakereba, jitensha de ikimasu. |
