### "In" vs. "Tra"

In English, "in" describes both when something will happen ("starting in ten minutes") and how long it takes to do ("finished in ten minutes"). Italian uses two distinct prepositions for these ideas: **tra** (or **fra**) and **in**.

Use **tra** or **fra** (which are interchangeable) for the time that must pass *before* an action begins. Use **in** for the total time required to *complete* a task.

Notice how the preposition completely changes the timeline. Starting an exam *in* twenty minutes (**tra venti minuti**) is very different from completing an exam *within* twenty minutes (**in venti minuti**).
