Questions & Answers about Ég deili fyndnu vefsíðunum á netinu.
Why does the adjective fyndinn (funny) become fyndnu here?
Two things happen here. First, because it describes a definite noun with an attached "the" ending, it uses the weak declension. For all plural words, the weak adjective ending is always just -u. Second, adjectives ending in -inn drop their second -i- before vowel endings, so fyndinn plus -u shrinks to fyndnu.
Why is vefsíðunum (the websites) in the dative case?
The verb deila (to share) controls the case of the object being shared, and it always requires the dative case. This means "the funny websites" must be in the dative, giving us the long definite dative plural ending -unum on the noun.
If the noun is dative, shouldn't the adjective fyndnu have a dative ending like -um?
If it were a strong adjective (a noun without "the"), yes, you would say fyndnum vefsíðum (funny websites). But because the noun has the definite "the" ending attached, the adjective must be weak. The great thing about weak plural adjectives is that they end in -u for all genders and all cases!
Why is it á netinu instead of just á neti?
